The following RFC, while awful slow, survives this. Can you
(again) check that on your laptop and/or give me tips on how to
improve this patch?

When I scp a file to a device, the target reports an awful load:

top - 16:17:08 up 57 min,  4 users,  load average: 2.68, 2.54, 1.77
Tasks:  51 total,   3 running,  48 sleeping,   0 stopped,   0 zombie
Cpu(s):  3.3%us, 87.0%sy,  0.0%ni,  0.0%id,  0.0%wa,  0.0%hi,  9.7%si,  0.0%st

Also, transfer speed is rather low ....  but for me I could,
so far, not provoke a hanging situation anymore an both i386 and
arm (PXA255).
